Paul Anthony McLinden PDTC Royal Academy of Dance

Paul Anthony McLinden

With nearly three decades in the industry, Paul Anthony McLinden has helped to shape mainstream Pilates into one of the world’s fastest growing exercise methods.  During Paul’s classical ballet career in the 1980’s, he trained as an apprentice to Pilates legend Alan Herdman, the man credited with first bringing Pilates to the UK. By the end of the 1990’s, Paul had travelled the globe studying and certifying hundreds of Pilates teachers as the Head of Teacher Training for the Body Control Pilates Association, an undisputed world leader in Pilates education.

Today, Paul remains one of the most respected and recognisable names in the Pilates industry. Since co-founding Brighton and Hove’s first Pilates studio in 1997, 16 local matwork teachers and studio owners in and around Brighton and Hove first qualified to teach Pilates as studio apprentices to Paul.  He remains a Senior Course Lecturer for the Body Control Pilates Association and is certified as a Level 3 Pilates Instructor by the Register for Exercise Professionals.

Paul and his hand-picked staff of trainers work with a vast cross-section of clients at ocean wave pilates, ranging from brick layers to professional dancers, sports personalities and a handful of high-profile Hollywood celebrities.

Paul’s book and DVD series entitled Pilates for Dancers is to be published in 2010.

ocean wave pilates antenatal and postnatal pregnancy programmes

Being pregnant doesn’t mean you have to stop exercising!  Millions of women around the world have discovered the numerous benefits of practicing the Pilates method during and after pregnancy.

Because the exercises are non-impact and focus on the muscles of the lower abdominals and pelvic floor, many women find huge benefits from practicing Pilates during their second and third trimesters of pregnancy.  After having a baby, the Pilates method is well known for effectively repairing abdominal separation (diastasis recti) and regaining a strong pelvic floor.

Our Antenatal Programme is designed to strengthen and stabilize from the inside out, perfect after the 14th week of pregnancy, while our Postnatal Programme is suitable for most new mums about 12 weeks after childbirth.

Our unique and proven Antenatal and Postnatal Pregnancy Programmes are designed for each unique woman, regardless of age or ability.  Gentle resistance work from the full Pilates repertoire for Matwork and Studio Equipment gradually improves both strength and alignment.

Antenatal Pilates should be started after the 14th week of a well-established pregnancy and only with expressed medical approval.
