''I can't believe how quickly I've sorted out my neck and shoulder problems. In just five weeks, I can move my neck more than I've been able to in years - and that's after having long courses with chiropractors, physios, and massage therapists. I am most grateful to have lost the ‘tenseness’ that I've been carrying… I noticed a difference after my very first Pilates session at ocean wave pilates.”
Ms. A. Lewis, Brighton
“Good teachers can be made, but the truly great ones are born. Paul Anthony McLinden’s teaching is technically correct, yet innovative and creative. I urge you to attend… in fact, I envy you!”
Lynne Robinson, the world’s top selling Pilates author and co-founder of the Body Control Pilates Association
“Pilates doesn’t just work, it produces really quite amazing results. I have achieved a monumental 8 % increase in bone density and my doctors agree, it has to be from practicing Pilates! A big ‘thank you’ to my fantastic instructors at ocean wave pilates for the hard work we’ve all done together, both on the mat and on the equipment… it has been life enhancing in so many different ways.” -
Ms. S. Box, Hove
“Paul Anthony McLinden has travelled across the globe perfecting the Classical Pilates work. He is one of the UK’s first and only Pilates teachers to open his heart, his mind, and his studio to fresh ideas.”
Siri Dharma Galliano, celebrity Pilates trainer to Madonna, Sting, Uma Thurman, Cameron Diaz, and Jessica Lange
Paul Anthony McLinden

With nearly thirty years in the industry, Paul Anthony McLinden has helped to shape mainstream Pilates into one of the world’s fastest growing exercise methods.
During the 1980’s, while completing his classical ballet training with London’s Central Ballet School, Paul certified to teach Pilates as one of the first apprentices to Alan Herdman, the internationally renowned master who is credited with bringing the Pilates method to the UK.
Paul went on to spend nearly a decade under contract as a soloist for national ballet companies in Italy, Sweden, Germany, Spain and Israel. During the peak of his performance career, he shared a stage with some of ballet’s biggest stars, including Rudolf Nureyev, Carla Fracchi, and the Bolshoi’s Nina Ananiashvili.
In the early 1990’s, Paul successfully completed the Professional Dancers’ Teaching Course at the Royal Academy of Dance, personally approved to teach classical ballet by then president Dame Margot Fonteyn. After his certification by the RAD, Paul accepted teaching positions at three of Italy’s most celebrated ballet academies: San Carlo di Napoli, Reggio Emilia Opera House and the esteemed Arena di Verona.
Having travelled the world perfecting the classical method, Paul returned to the UK in 1996 to become the first Head of Teacher Training for the newly-founded Body Control Pilates Association. Body Control is now Europe’s largest training body and an undisputed international leader in Pilates education. Today, Paul remains one of the most recognisable names in the Pilates industry.
Since co-founding Brighton and Hove’s first studio nearly 15 years ago, hundreds of instructors have certified to teach under Paul’s experienced tuition. Paul has presented Masterclass Workshops on five continents and remains a Senior Course Lecturer for Body Control. His first instructional DVD ‘Pilates for Dancers’ was released in 2009.
Paul and his hand-picked staff of trainers work with a large cross-section of clients at his dedicated equipment studio, Ocean Wave Pilates. His private client base includes school teachers, taxi drivers, professional dancers, sports personalities and a handful of high-profile Hollywood celebrities.

Wendy Hookham

Wendy Hookham first took up Pilates to mobilise and relieve pain from a deep shoulder injury. She soon realised that Pilates produced immediate positive results, improving her posture, streamlining and strengthening her entire body. This experience began her passion for Pilates and her two years of matwork and equipment training as an apprentice to the Body Control Pilates Association’s former Head of Teacher Training, Paul Anthony McLinden.
Wendy teaches in both a classical and modified style, using a 'hands on' approach, whilst recognizing each individual's needs. Clients have remarked how accessible and clear Wendy's teaching style is, noticing visible improvements in their balance and core stability. Wendy enjoys interacting with all clients, encouraging feedback and creating a stimulating studio environment.
Max Lobatto
Max Lobatto has always been interested, from a very early age, in fitness, movement, and physical well-being. At the age of 7, he began his lifelong career of martial arts training. Like many other athletes, Max first discovered the Pilates method when he needed to repair a sports-related injury. He went on to complete a eleven-month apprenticeship to Paul Anthony McLinden in 2008 and is now fully certified to teach both Pilates matwork and studio equipment.
Max has a gentle yet enthusiastic approach to teaching, and is dedicated to increasing widespread awareness of all Pilates has to offer.
Jason Thomas

Jason Thomas first discovered the Pilates method in southern California during the mid 1990’s. It wasn’t until moving to the UK in 2003 that he was accepted as a full-time apprentice to Master Trainer Paul Anthony McLinden.
Jason demonstrates a natural ability to instruct others in the Pilates method, with his committed yet easy-going approach.
In 2007, Jason co-presented Masterclass Workshops for fellow Pilates instructors at the Buenos Aires headquarters of the world’s largest Pilates studio chain -Tamara Di Tella Pilates- and was invited to demonstrate Advanced Pilates Reformer technique to hundreds of Pilates instructors on a national tour of Australia.
Jason is an Associate Lecturer in movement for dancers at the University of Chichester, and is the co-author of Pilates for Dancers, due for release in 2010.
